The Tragic Flight of Helios Flight 522 - Case Study

On August 14, 2005, Helios Airways Flight 522 carrying 115 passengers and 6 crews crashed into a mountain in Greece (AAIASB,2006). The flight was scheduled to depart from Larnaca Cyprus for Prague, Czech Republic. During the investigation, the Air Accident Investigation & Aviation Safety Board (AAIASB) found that the loss of cabin pressurization resulted in the depletion of oxygen which incapacitated the crew (AAIASB, 2006). The aircraft continued to fly on autopilot until it eventually ran out of fuel and crashed. All 121 passengers and crew perished during the accident.

Leading Innovation: My Journey Through the EID Competition

My Thoughts On the Engineering Innovation and Design Competition Participating in the EID competition was an invaluable experience that allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. As a leader of a diverse team, I navigated the complexities of managing a large group, balancing technical and interpersonal responsibilities. The competition’s objective: identifying a problem, creating a solution, and executing it effectively, provided a perfect platform for emerging engineers like us to showcase our skills. Despite initial apprehensions about the responsibilities entrusted to me, this journey bolstered my confidence, honed my leadership abilities, and reinforced the importance of collaboration and adaptability in achieving success. Being a group leader for such projects is not easy, especially with a team of nine members. Prior to this project, I mainly work in groups of 3-5. Right from the start, I anticipated several challenges, including managing the workload distribution and ensuring that everyone had…

The Engineering Digest

Welcome to my blog, where I explore and discuss topics in technology, science, aerospace, engineering, and other fascinating subjects. The content I post here is thoroughly researched, aiming to be as factual and unbiased as possible. Unlike a personal diary, I do not share my opinions here.

In case you are wondering how I do my research, I often start by watching YouTube videos or reading online content to get a general idea of what the topic is about. I would then read research articles and expert opinions from credible sources. The sources for my content can be found at the bottom of each article.

Disclaimer: I am no expert in any of the topics I discuss below. However, I thoroughly do my research before publishing the content. If there is anything wrong with my content, do contact me.

About the Author

Hello! I’m Indra Adhwa, a 23-year-old Mechanical Engineering undergraduate. I began my academic journey in engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where I earned my Aerospace Engineering diploma in April 2021. Currently, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at NTU.

My passion lies in the fields of engineering, technology, aerospace, and science. Whenever I encounter something fascinating, I delve deep into the topic, conducting my own research and sharing my findings on my blog. I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for various subjects with others. In early 2021, I decided to create my own website to publish my blogs. While I’m new to the world of blogging, I have ample experience in writing reports and conducting research, skills honed during my time as a polytechnic student.

I hope you find my content engaging and that you learn something new with each article you read.
