A Blessed Day
It all started on the 2nd of June 2001, it was the day I was born.
Second Home
Growing up, my mom used to force me to go to the library to pick up some books and borrow them. Back then, I used to hate the library. It’s too quiet and boring. I wasn’t interested in books either as they were wordy and boring. There was nothing to look at. Though, I used to borrow books with tons of pictures. Normally these books can be found under the engineering, science and technology section. Back then, I didn’t know that those moments were setting me up for my life trajectory.
Blessing In Disguise
With a score of 222 for my primary school leaving examination, I was eligible for the express stream and kent ridge secondary school was the school of my choice. There, I took up sailing as my co-curricular activity. I learned a lot about seamanship and working as a team. In secondary 1, there were student leaders that introduce us to the student council. A student body responsible for key school events and role models to other students. Back then, I wasn’t interested in student council. At that age and era, it wasn’t considered cool to be a leader. However, my form teacher saw potential in me and submitted my name to the student council. Fast forward a few years, student council was actually a blessing in disguise. It was one of the best things that have happened in my life. As I partake in events and take up key roles, I picked up many valuable lessons and skills. Being an organiser, planner and leader has taught me skills such as planning, organising, collaboration and has even made me humble and broaden my horizons. It has made me confident in communicating ideas and opinions with peers and teachers. There were many subjects that I had to take up in secondary school but 3 of the subjects I loved the most was science (physics & chemistry), design & technology and geography.
My First Taste Of Engineering
After getting my o level results, I was privileged to have been able to choose either A levels or a diploma. The books I was read in my younger days made me decide that I wanted to pursue a career in engineering. It was a tough choice as ‘A’ levels would have given me a higher chance of pursuing higher education but ultimately, i couldn’t ignore what my heart was saying which is to follow my interest and passion.
Obtaining My Diploma
Fast forward 3 years, I have now completed my diploma in aerospace engineering and I have never regret any moment of it. All the late nights, frustration and hours of searching the web for answers and explanation was all worth. Having a taste of engineering, aerospace and working in an organisation has made me even more confident that I have made the right career choice. I am excited to see where my future lies, the exciting projects and organisations I will partake.
National Service
For now, I have to put all of it on hold to contribute back to my country – the place where I was born, raised and educated. It has given me so much and it is only right to spend a minute portion of my life to return the favour. I will be serving 2 years of national service Singapore Police Force.
